Inderpal Chhabra was born in New Delhi India to an Engineer father and a Biology teacher mother. After completing High School, he went to the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi. This is where the “Sewa” service, bug bit him. He was an active member of a team of students who held weekly camps at various slums of Delhi. Be it rain or high summer, these volunteers showed up with their gear to vaccinate children, to provide pre-natal counselling and to answer to any needs of these communities. During one such visit, he noted a sign, “Donated by the Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, New York” on a X ray machine in Tilak Vihar where a lot of 1984 survivors were settled. He was also instrumental in organizing a relief trip to the heights of Himalayas after a deadly earthquake hit areas of extreme altitude in 1991.

After immigrating to New York in 1992, he went to Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, NY where he finished training as a Internal Medicine Resident. He was offered a position by a local Cardiologist, Dr Prem Goel. Dr Goel, incidentally, was extremely motivated towards the Foundation and went on to become its President. Dr Chhabra has been active in the Foundation ever since. He was blessed with the opportunity to serve as its President in 2007-2008. This foundation has many achievements to its credit, including a co sponsor of the first ever Bone Marrow transplant in India. He has been serving the Board of the Foundation with Pride, Passion and Gusto.

Dr. Chhabra prides himself in his activities towards organized medicine. He has been active in lobbying on behalf of the Nation’s Physicians with the AMA during many trips to Washington and to Albany. He has been a Past President of the Young Physician Chapter of the Medical Society of the State of New York in 2004-05, and later on went on to Preside over the Queens County Medical Society in 2007.

Inderpal Chhabra is blessed with two lovely daughters, Manjot and Avneet and a loving wife, Dalbir. In his every endeavor, he tries to bring Passion, Sincerity and above all, Humility.
