Gurdev D.P. Singh

Gurdev Singh is the President, CEO and founder of Meetu Magic Inc., an importer & wholesaler of women’s apparel. Mr. Singh also founded The African Scene, Magic, Mint Green, and U Turn Clothing.

His passion for entrepreneurship, and zest for taking new ventures is apparent in his success in the fashion business. Today his labels are sold to Americas largest department stores: T.J.Maxx, Marshall’s, Ross Stores, and Burlington Coat Factory and in many specialty retail stores’s Rainbow, Joyce Leslie, A& E Stores and Charlotte Rousse.

Being in the garment field is nothing new to Mr. Singh. His passion for this industry dates back to watching his grandfather, a dyer and printer of raw fabric. Later his father, the late Mr. Jeet Singh expanded in this line of work by becoming an exporter of ready made garments. This inspired Mr.Gurdev Singh to open his import & wholesale business in the States.

Located in the heart of fashion district in Manhattan, his daughter Daman is also following in the same footsteps. This makes her a fourth generation in this line of work.

Mr. Singh’s beginnings in America were very humble. Mr. Singh’s journey began at the age of 22 when he left New Delhi, India. He first came to the United States with his wife Hardeep Kaur in 1987 with nothing but high hopes and dreams.

Mr. Singh is a leading example of starting small and making it big. Not wanting to work for someone else, both husband and wife started setting shop at local Flea Markets. After years of hard work he opened his first wholesale store on Broadway & 29th street in 1994. Mr. Singh decided he wanted to wholesale his own label, and went to India to set up a garment factory of his own. Twenty years have passed since then, and he has undeniably made his place in the fashion business.

Apart from his business and family, Mr. Singh focuses his energy towards the Indian Community in Long Island. He actively participates in local charities and contributes generously to his community. Mr. Singh and his wife, daughter, Daman and son Chintan live by the following motto:

“Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
